Dr. Habibi’s Interview with “Pharma Mondays” News

Dr. Maryam Habibi, pharmacist and CEO of Rasta Imen Company, stated in an interview that many of the challenges in the pharmaceutical industry stem from price controls. She believes that setting a price ceiling for medications means limiting quality, as manufacturers are forced to adjust their resources and requirements to fixed prices—ultimately hindering innovation and development.

She also emphasized that the entry of international companies and local licensed production can enhance competition in the market, which in turn leads to higher quality. However, when competition is restricted, quality declines—resulting in reduced innovation and growth.

Dr. Habibi further pointed to the excessive regulatory restrictions in Iran, noting that they sometimes go beyond global standards. She stressed that this deviation from the approach of developed countries creates unnecessary barriers to achieving high-quality outcomes. She highlighted the importance of facilitating processes based on global experiences for better pharmaceutical market management in the country.
