Chickenpox is a highly contagious disease characterized by itchy skin rashes accompanied by small fluid-filled blisters. It easily spreads to individuals who have never had the disease or have not been vaccinated against it. The illness typically lasts between 4 to 7 days.
This year, Iran has seen an increase in cases of this disease. But what causes the increase in chickenpox cases?
According to infectious disease specialists, there are two main reasons for this sudden increase in chickenpox cases in the community. One reason is the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the other is the higher prevalence of this disease in the spring season.
Dr. Amitis Ramazani states that the reason for the increase in chickenpox cases among children is the end of the COVID-19 period. After COVID-19, children have more contact and interaction with each other, leading to a rise in chickenpox cases among them.
As we know, during the COVID-19 period, children stayed at home more and attended their classes online. As a result, their exposure to viruses was reduced, and they contracted fewer illnesses.
However, now that interactions have increased, we naturally see a rise in infectious diseases like chickenpox.
